Five Interesting Facts About Aloe Vera

Cactus Background (Aloe Polyphylla)

Aloe vera, also known as medicinal aloe, is a succulent plant that is made up of 97% water and usually grows without a stem, in arid climates. It has thick, green fleshy leaves that can grow as high as two or three feet tall.

The aloe vera plant is well known for its medicinal qualities and is believed to have various healing properties which can, among other benefits, delay the aging process, alleviate menstrual problems and heal sunburn.

We’ve been researching this wonder plant and found five interesting facts which make it unique.

*There are approximately 300 species of aloe vera but only four of them are cultivated for their health benefits and aloe vera, also known as ‘true aloe’, is the most popular for medical applications.

*Egypt’s Queen Cleopatra was said to have used aloe vera gel as part of her beauty ritual according to ancient writings dating back to 1550 B.C.

*The most valuable part of the aloe vera plant is the clear gel found inside the leaves, which contains 75 nutrients, including amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Aloe also has anti-fungal and antibacterial qualities which can stop wounds from getting infected.

*Aloe leaf contains latex that is effective as a laxative, but this should only be ingested in small amounts because large doses can be toxic.

*Aloe vera is believed to help prevent or cure several illnesses or ailments including arthritis, joint pain, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
