GUERNSEY GOES RETRO!
Put on your bobby socks and backcomb your hair into a beehive, it’s time to return to the 1950s and 60s and participate in the Guernsey Retro Festival organised by Guernsey Revival.
This three-day event will feature classic cars and motorcycles, music, dancing and fashion from the era.
The festival will offer opportunities to teach and participate in dance lessons as locals and visitors will be exposed to the fun of the Lindy Hop and rock’n’roll. There will be performances from local groups and plans for flash-mob-style dancing.
Three local charities have been chosen as recipients of funds raised by this novel nostalgic event: Mind Guernsey, Men’s Shed Guernsey, and Male Uprising Guernsey.
The schedule of events includes:
Friday 27 September
Vin d’Honneur at the Market Building where classic vehicles will be on display and entertainment will be provided by a jazz band
Saturday 28 September
Crown Pier with the Eat Drink & Be Local Food Festival
Morning ride-outs and tours
Afternoon tea and scones at the Governor’s
Evening on the Crown Pier
Sunday 29 September
St Peter Port seafront with the Eat Drink & Be Local Food Festival
Guernsey blogger, Charlie Spark, sums up what to expect:
“The Guernsey Retro Festival,
Will revive those heady days,
From 27th to 29th September,
In oh so many ways,
They’ll have bands a plenty playing,
With dancing on the Crown Pier,
Not quite the Beatles at Candie,
But definitely good to hear.
Alongside period rock and roll,
There’ll be classic bikes and cars there too,
Fashion and food and much much more,
There’ll be something there for you!
You’ll be sorry if you miss it,
This could be your chance,
To strut your stuff just one more time,
And show you kids that you could dance!”
