Martels is an independent, family run funeral business, and is a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors. We are proud of the personal service and facilities we can offer to the bereaved and their families at times of grief and distress.
We have a purpose-built "Funeral Home" in Guernsey, incorporating the latest mortuary facilities. The reception and private interview room are furnished more like one's home rather than an office, providing a more homely atmosphere in which to make funeral arrangements or to sit quietly before viewing the deceased in the Chapel of Rest. Pre-Paid funeral Plans are available. As with all Funeral Directors our business has evolved over many years. Our origins can be traced back to the mid-eighteen hundreds, where the “Undertaker” was the carpenter/builder of the area who undertook to carry out the arrangements for the family. I have been involved with the funeral profession for over fifty years, a period in which the public have come to expect a very high level of service, and we do our utmost to provide the assistance and advice the public demand, and are always striving for excellence of service.
Our Chapel of Rest has been dedicated by all the main religious denominations, and is tastefully decorated with seating where the family can pay their last respects to the deceased. It has proved an intimate and popular venue for private funerals, accommodating a maximum of twenty-four people. There is a simple light oak altar with matching cross and candlesticks
alongside the coffin stand two high candlesticks, and the stained glass windows have a single lily below the signs of the Alpha and Omega, which signifies the beginning and the end.
