Guernsey’s Autumn Walking Festival 2024: 14 to 29 September

One of the best ways to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty of the Bailiwick of Guernsey is on a walking tour.
During the last two weeks of September, the annual Autumn Walking Festival gives locals and visitors a chance to explore Guernsey, Herm, and Sark and learn more about its history and scenic locations.
Accredited guides lead the walks, and they are happy to share their knowledge on a range of trails across the islands.
Below are some of the planned walks during this year’s Autumn Festival:
14 September
The WW2 Commando Raids and Lancaster Bomber Crash – 8am-5pm. An all-day walk on Sark which includes a visit to the field where an RAF Lancaster bomber crash-landed in November 1943.
15 September
Fort George: Military Cemetery and Target of Allied Air Raids – 9am-11am. Visit some of the graves in Fort George cemetery – the final resting place for two Allied airmen and 111 German military personnel during the Occupation.
17 September
The Hidden Village of St Saviour’s Reservoir – 2pm-4pm. Gold accredited guide Soo Wellfair leads this woodland walk around the St Saviour’s Reservoir’s tranquil Millennium Walk.
18 September
Seaweed Foraging Tour – 1pm-2.30pm. Find out more about the history of seaweed in Guernsey and its many uses in farming, cooking, cosmetics, and the fashion industry.
22 September
Herm. Around and Beyond – 11am-3pm. Accredited tour guide and horticulturalist, Malcolm Cleal, shares his expertise on the history, legends, and botany of Herm and the surrounding offshore islands.
25 September
A Jerbourg Jaunt – 10.30am-12.30pm. A cliff path walk around the Jerbourg peninsula to enjoy the stunning views from this elevated part of the island.
29 September
Unveiling History Inside the German Underground Hospital – 10.30am-11.30am. A guided tour inside the largest structural reminder of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands.
