Guernsey’s Spring Walking Festival: 24 May to 8 June 2025

A walking tour through Guernsey is one of the best ways to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty of the Bailiwick. 

During May and June, the annual Spring Walking Festival gives locals and visitors a chance to explore Guernsey, Herm, and Sark and learn more about a range of historic and scenic locations. 

Accredited guides lead the walks, and they are happy to share their knowledge on a range of trails across the islands. 

Below are some of the planned walks during this year’s Spring Festival: 

24 May

The WW2 Occupation of Sark – 8am-6pm. An all-day walk on Sark taking in the many sites occupied by the Germans from 1940-1945.

25 May 

Herm by Beach and Dune – 11am-2pm. Led by accredited tour guide and horticulturalist, Malcolm Cleal, this walk explores Herms coastal environments flora and fauna including foraging the shoreline and inland to discover what’s edible and useful.

26 May

Waking the Dead – 2pm-4.30pm. Hear fascinating stories about the Town cemeteries and their residents including the circumstances surrounding the last man hung in Guernsey. 

28 May

Mysterious Streets of St Peter Port – 7pm-8.30pm. Discover various spooky happenings in St Peter Port, including the haunting of a boy who starved to death, and visit the place where witches were burned at the stake.

30 May

Food and Culture Experience Tour – 2pm-3.30pm. Dive into the rich history of Guernsey’s markets, savouring locally made drinks, chocolates, hearty Bean Jar and Gâche Melée. This walk will be led by gold accredited tour guide Korinne Le Page.

3 June

A Place of Peace: Discovering the Shell Shrine – 2pm-4pm. Gold accredited guide Soo Wellfair will lead this coastal walk from Vazon to Albecq. Walkers will get a chance to visit The Shrine of the Sacred Heart (a former German bunker decorated with a million seashells) and hear stories of local history and folklore.

6 June

Walking in the footsteps of Renoir and Victor Hugo – 2pm-4pm. A guided tour by Korinne Le Page focusing on Renoir’s stay in the Summer of 1883 and Victor Hugo’s frequent visits to Moulin Huet.

8 June

The Road to Freedom – 10.30am-12.30pm. Celebrating the 80th anniversary of Liberation, walkers will follow in the footsteps of the liberation forces from their arrival at the harbour to the arrest of the German Kommandant.
