The Alderney Literary Festival will be highlighting 10 authors this year when it takes place from 28-30 March at the Island Hall, Connaught Square.

The theme for 2025 is ‘Weaving Historical Narratives’.

The festival’s 2025 programme features an impressive range of non-fictional and fictional historical writers including Sunday Times bestselling writer Simon Scarrow, author of ‘A Death in Berlin’. He posted on social media: “Delighted to be returning to Alderney. They have one of the best Literary Festivals I have ever been to. Also, the island is a magical place, well worth a visit.”

Some of the other authors in the 2025 line-up are Clare Mulley, creator of ‘Agent Zo’; Leo Vardiashvili whose debut novel is ‘Hard by a Great Forest’; Flora Johnston, writer of ‘The Paris Peacemakers’; and Lesley Downer, historian and author of ‘The Shortest History of Japan’.

The opening panel discussion at 10am on Friday 28 March will explore this year’s theme ‘Weaving the Historical Narrative: the linearity of time.’ The final talk on Sunday 30 March at 11.30am will be hosted by the festival’s chairperson Tony Riches.

Background:

The Alderney Literary Festival was created by the Alderney Literary Trust, a non-profit organisation, to “inspire a love of words.”

According to the Trust’s website, the festival gathers “historians, biographers, novelists, and fans of historical fiction and non-fiction” for a long weekend of insightful discussions on world history.

The festival is renowned for its blend of panel discussions and readings from bestselling and debut guest authors. Audience numbers are limited which gives each talk a uniquely, intimate ambience.
