Summer was warm and wonderful, but all good things must come to an end. The days are growing cooler and darker as the fall and winter seasons approach. That means it’s the perfect time to plan a getaway to escape the Guernsey cold.

In this holiday guide, we’ll help you figure out where you should jet off to.

The Caribbean is full of incredible places to vacation that will keep you basking in the warmth of the sun.

Portland, Jamaica is a wonderful spot off the beaten track in the Caribbean. Many island locals consider Portland to be the country’s most beautiful parish and it’s actually a favourite spot for celebrities visiting the island. Harry Styles recorded part of his debut album at Geejam Hotel in Portland.

About two hours outside of the hustle and bustle of Jamaica’s capital city Kingston, Portland is a place where things move slowly.

It’s lush and green, with rivers perfect for rafting, waterfalls, and incredible beaches including the famous Frenchman’s Cove Beach and the more laid back San San Beach.

Boston Beach is also very well-known and famous for the jerk pork sold there. In fact, Portland claims to be the birthplace of Jamaica’s most famous food: jerk!

The gorgeous, deep and mysterious Blue Lagoon is also located in the parish and you can access the stunning Blue Mountains.

While not as brimming with hotels as the tourist centres of Montego Bay, Ocho Rios or Negril, Portland boasts some impressive eco-friendly hotels.

Hotel Mockingbird Hill has been twice voted Caribbean Green Hotel of the Year and is a romantic hideaway for couples. Great Huts is a unique hotel with bungalows and luxury treehouses. Solar panels are used to heat the water and all glass bottles are gathered and sold back to the bottling companies for re-use.

If you want a romantic holiday in the warmth of the Caribbean this fall or winter, then keep Portland in mind.
