Vive la France: ‘Le French Festival’ Returns from 10-15 October 2023

Le French Festival returns to Guernsey in October with a wide selection of French-themed activities.

Taking place from Tuesday 10 October to Sunday 15 October, the popular festival will celebrate French culture, music, food, and films. There will even be a screening of an opera!

In addition, Guernsey will also be hosting the only Renoir exhibition in the world in 2023. This special event will celebrate the 140th anniversary of Renoir’s stay in Guernsey, with many of his works returning to where they were first painted. 

Below are some of the activities scheduled during the festival.

10 October – In Victor Hugo’s Footsteps. A walking tour from 2pm-3.30pm with guide Gill Girard through the same steps and alleyways in St Peter Port as Victor Hugo. Cost is £10.

10-15 October – Take in the new art exhibition ‘Renoir in Guernsey, 1883’ organised by Art for Guernsey in partnership with the Guernsey Museums and the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny. The centrepiece of the event will be a fine art exhibition at Candie Museum. Buy your tickets here.

10-15 October – Guernsey’s Tennerfest food festival is back for 2023 with some delicious dishes inspired by French cuisine. Visit the Tennerfest website to check out the menus on offer and book your table today.

11 October  Victor Hugo Society Meeting Night from 7pm-9pm. All are invited to Les Cotils reading room to discover more about Victor Hugo’s connections with local people as recorded in his notebooks.

11 October – Renne Opera presents a screening of ‘L’Elixir d’Amour’ or ‘Elixir of Love’ from 7pm-9.30pm. Admission is free, but you must reserve a seat through www.guernseytickets.gg to attend. The opera will be in Italian with French subtitles.
